Monday, August 19th, 1946: Katsuji Kito burst onto the Single A stage in a big way last week. This promising rookie second baseman for Birmingham garnered everyone's respect by putting up some remarkable numbers and picking up the Player of the Week trophy.
The 22-year-old haunted opposing pitchers hitting .360 (9-25) with 4 home runs and 7 RBIs last week.
To date this season Kito is hitting .273 with 40 home runs. |

Sunday, August 18th, 1946: Jim Unknown of the Milton White Sox was something to behold at White Sox Ballpark. He was on fire and fanned 16 Machines en route to a 3-2 victory. Unknown shackled POS Portal on 3 hits and gave up no walks in an outstanding performance.
"That's as good as I've ever seen him throw," his manager said. "I've never seen so many bad swings in my life. These guys didn't have a chance."
Unknown had very little to say to after the game. "We won and that's the bottom line. I had a good game. And we beat POS Portal."
The POS Portal manager wasn't too happy with the game. "He pitched a very good game. You have to tip your cap to him."
